The British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs or BAFTA Awards, is an annual film award show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to honour the best British and international contributions to film.
The first BAFTA Awards ceremony was held in 1949, and the ceremony was first broadcast on the BBC in 1956. The ceremony was initially held in April or May; since 2001, it typically takes place in February. BAFTA is often considered the British equivalent of the Oscars, with many winners overlapping between the two awards.
The 78th BAFTA Awards celebrated the finest achievementsin cinema, with Conclave and The Brutalist emerging asthe biggest winners of the night, each securing four awards. The French musical crime drama Emilia Pérez continued its dominance, winning Best Film Not in the English Language, beating Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, marking its third major loss to Emilia Pérez this year.
Meanwhile, director Brady Corbet (The Brutalist) and lead actor Adrien Brody (The Brutalist) secured top honors. The awards also saw Dune: Part Two winning in technical categories, while Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl took home Best Animated Film.
